Development of a test bench for additive manufacturing and on-machine verification of parts
Abstract
This Master’s Thesis (MSc Thesis) is developed within the framework of the National R&D&i Plan project entitled “Real-Time Compensation of Layer Geometry Errors for Additive Manufacturing Processes”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (DPI2017-83068-P). The thesis focuses on the design and construction of an experimental mechatronic platform for the fabrication of components using FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication). The platform incorporates a supporting system for the controlled movement and positioning of different non-contact inspection sensors, which are intended for the in-process verification of the manufactured part.
It should be emphasised that the testing and evaluation of the different inspection sensors are outside the scope of this MSc Thesis and are part of the aforementioned research project.
The development of the experimental platform comprises the following main tasks:
- Study of the FFF technique and the technologies associated with this type of machine.
- Design of an experimental platform suitable for future research activities.
- Planning and implementation of the fabrication and assembly of the equipment.
- Functional testing, commissioning and adjustment of the system.
