Short CV:
Braulio J. Álvarez earned an MSc in Industrial Engineering (2001) and a PhD (2009) from the University of Oviedo, Spain. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Department of Construction and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Oviedo, where he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2023. His research has primarily focused on industrial metrology, particularly in dimensional inspection and manufacturing process planning. Currently, his interests centre on dimensional inspection in additive manufacturing processes. He has contributed to numerous research projects, with his findings published in high-impact journals and presented at both national and international conferences.

Abstract The company DOGRAM is involved in an international CDTI project, entitled PV-Box-Grow, in which it provides support for the assembly and dimensional verification of large-scale structures for mounting marine solar panels. The project combines “hybrid” non-contact measurements obtained using different reverse-engineering technologies and equipment [...]
Private Funding Projects,Projects
Abstract This project provided technological support for the development of an optical human face digitization system aimed at customizing 3D-printed oronasal masks. Two acquisition strategies (simultaneous and progressive) were analyzed and compared. A test bench incorporating simplified prototypes was designed and built, and different configurations [...]
Private Funding Projects,Projects
Abstract This project investigated and evaluated how to automatically generate a customized oronasal mask (PPE) model adapted to each user’s face, based on facial scanning data and a generic model designed for additive manufacturing using an elastic material. The work covered the characterization of the [...]

Feasibility of Conoscopic Holography Measurement in the Stereolithography (SLA) Process with Alumina
Abstract As additive manufacturing technologies continue to gain ground in industrial applications, the need for the accurate metrological evaluation of parts produced with advanced materials becomes increasingly critical. In this context, non-contact metrology plays a key role. This research investigates the performance of conoscopic holography [...]
Projects,Public Funding Projects
Abstract The project aims to develop and optimize the additive manufacturing of metal parts using Metal Extrusion (MEX/M) as an alternative to conventional metal powder-based technologies, with the goal of reducing costs, energy consumption, and the risks associated with the handling of raw materials. The [...]

Abstract The TEDI project is a 36-month Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Higher Education (KA220-HED) running from September 2024 to August 2027, co-funded with a grant of €250,000. Coordinated by Rzeszów University of Technology (Poland) alongside Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) and the University of Oviedo [...]

Abstract The processes utilized for Additive Manufacturing (AM) production of metallic parts usually entail the use of hazardous feedstocks, expensive production equipment, and high energy consumption. Metal Material Extrusion AM (MEX/M) presents an alternative multi-step approach that addresses these challenges by additively extruding polymer-metal composite [...]

Abstract: The industrial adoption of material extrusion of polymers (MEX/P) is hindered by the geometric quality of manufactured parts. Contact image sensors (CISs), commonly used in flatbed scanners, have been proposed as a suitable technology for layer-wise characterization of contour deviations, paving the way for [...]
Projects,Public Funding Projects
Abstract: Additive manufacturing processes are opening up a world of possibilities towards obtaining parts with complex geometry and adjustable properties. Its impact in sectors such as biomechanics, energy or aerospace is already appreciable, but the forecasts point to a real revolution linked to the development [...]
